What are the differences between Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium, and Enterprise plan options?

Microsoft has a number of managed productivity and security offerings for small to medium-sized businesses, each with increasingly powerful features and functionality.

  • Microsoft 365 Business Basic gives you access to lightweight web and mobile versions of apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as business email, cloud storage, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Microsoft 365 Business Standard includes powerful desktop, web, and mobile apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as additional apps like Clipchamp, and the same services as those in Business Basic.
  • Microsoft 365 Business Premium includes all the same apps and services, plus advanced cyber threat protection and device management capabilities.
  • The Enterprise plan option offers increased levels of security and compliance management over the Business plans, and includes additional business intelligence and analytics functionality. These plans are designed for enterprise customers and those with more than 300 users.
Can I mix and match different Microsoft 365 plans?

The Microsoft 365 for Business Basic (billed per user) plan is designed for organizations with up to 300 users. Organizations with more than 300 users should consider subscribing to a Microsoft 365 for Enterprise plan. Microsoft reserve the right to enforce the 300-seat tenant limit on affiliate plans, in which case they will provide advance notice and further guidance. In the meantime, they are treating customers who have provisioned up to 300 seats on each of the business plans (Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium) as meeting this 300-seat limit, even if they have provisioned more than 300 seats in total on the affiliate plans.
